Now I Have seen it all
Nursing is not my only interest. I am a not so secret clothes horse. As a woman in my sixities, I still like to study fashion and wear nice clothes. I have been known to have a melt down if things don’t match. So going that extra mile to look good is not new or foreign to me.
A patient on the television show The Doctors had her toes shorten so she could wear high heel shoes. Yes the toe next to the big toe was longer and she said it caused her pain when she wore four inch heels. So off went the offending member. What kind of society are we coming to that cutting off an appendage is a better option than wearing the right shoes?
I know that realigning the feet goes back centuries in the Chinese culture where they bound the feet of girls to keep their feet small to the point that they had to be carried because they could not walk. But is this really necessary today?
We are becoming so obsessed with looks that girls barely in their teens are being taken across the border in San Diego, California, to go to the less than safe clinics in Mexico to enhance their looks. The girls have not been allowed to grow up and reach their potenial beore putting their bodies before their brains.
We have all seen girls who were not so attractive as youngsters who grew up to be drop dead gorgeous in later life. Tyra Banks to name one.
As I said what’s next? Will we never evolve to the point that a person is judged by character, personality, and inner beauty and not what they llok like or wear?
