I don’t want to sound like the town crier but its here again.. The  2008-2009 Flu seasons is here and its time to stick out our arms and be brave. All kidding aside, those of us who are senior citizens or have a chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease. or respiratory problems, should be heading to our doctor’s offices to get the shot. Or in some neighborhoods, the local pharmacy, where you can buy Flu shots for a small fee.

Some of you are going to say the shot only takes care of one strain of  the Flu. Well you are only half right. The Flu shot is gauged for one strain but it has been shown to be helpful with other kinds of the Flu by lessening the attack from other strains.

After getting our Flu shots what else can we do to give us a fighting chance to come through this without the Flu. A simple but really helpful tip is to wash your hands well. Flu germs lay in wait to be transported to our bodies. Eat vegetables, fruit, and get six to eight hours rest. Cut down on stress. Stress opens up the body to Flu and many other things.

If after taking all of the precausions and we still get the Flu, what’s next? Don’t be a hero! Stay home and take care of yourself. Drink fluids and use what medications your doctor has recommended to help with  your symptoms.  Now may be a good time to read that book you have not had time to read.

We can get through this. We have made it through many other battles. This too will pass.
