Health workers and their lack of confidentiality
There is a story online of workers in an ER taking pictures of patients and posting them on their Myspace Page. This is such a breach of a patient’s confidentiality that there are no words to express my anger.
Why would a thing like this happen? Well I know in part this is due to people coming into the profession who just want a paycheck. People aren’t tested, nor are sufficient background checks done to see if they have the aptitude to become a nurse. All they need to do, in most cases, is have finished high school, cough up the money to pass a course, and they are able to become a nurse.
The professional nurse is one that understands the responsibility and legal aspect that is expected of them. This is taught in class but it is not engraved in the nurses of today. Hospitals have nurses take classes every year on this subject but the new breed just don’t seem to get the message.
Patients are put in our charge. We are supposed to treat them with the same care we would want our mothers, children and ourselves to be given. No picture taking No talking about patients in area where it can be over heard by visitor or other patients.
Nurses treat your job as a profession that is to be respected and not just a way to make coins to spend at Wal-Mart!
